UoP Development Squad V Journo FC, George Champion: “It’s all about taking those chances."

Journo FC significantly reduced their chances to win the title last Saturday at Langstone Sports Centre, following a 3-1 defeat against UoP Development Squad.

Having previously beaten UoP development squad 3-0 in a friendly, Champion states: “We are all very disappointed. Everyone is a bit deflated after that loss.”

Despite a strong start, the tables turned in the second half with Journo FC conceding two goals.

Champion has emphasised his frustration over the loss, claiming it could have been avoided through better defending and organisation.

Champion comments on why Journo FC suffered the loss last weekend:

“It was certain laziness from some people that let our team down. I think they know who they are.

“You can’t be lazy when you are playing quality players that are in the UOP Development team.

“The UoP Development squad came out and took it to another level. They’ve been playing together for a while.

“It’s hard when you’re coming up against a team that have better quality in certain areas, and that’s probably what cost us in the second half.

“A game like that, it’s ridiculous whether you are playing a team in the league or any other team, you need to be taking those chances as they could come back to hurt you.

“It’s all about taking those chances, which is something we have struggled with this season.”

However, Champion has praised Pichard for winning Man of the Match, “I thought he was superb. Not just some of the saves he did to keep us in it, but his passing distribution was unreal.”

Champion is confident that the team will continue to improve, with new players’ such as Alex Ward settling in well, having been signed early January 2022.

Journo FC now prepare to play Paralympiocs on February 19th, with hope to still win the title.

“We will try to play our game, possession-based, win the ball. It’s a tough game as well, I think Paralympiocs are now top of the league. They have had some decent results,”

Champion claims: “We will try to play our game, possession-based and win the ball. It’s a tough game as well, I think Paralympiocs are now top of the league. They have had some decent results.

“We just need to go in with the right head and think positively about how this result is crucial.

“There is a hope we can still win the title, but we are relying on other teams. We just got to keep training well.

“We can’t be too over-confident going into games, we have to keep a level head.”
